"Please! I'm not the Accalia as you all believe. I cannot be her." I looked around at them, their eyes locked onto me as I denied their silly prophecy. "I'm not a savior. I'm not the girl they describe in here. I don't have the power or strength to stop whatever it is the Accalia's meant to stop. I'm just me. I am just a normal girl who graduated high school a few weeks ago. I'm sorry, but I'm not who you think I am."
I was apologetic, but firm. I couldn't be what they wanted me to be. I just wasn't that girl. The only love I had ever knows was the love I had for Aunt Cammie, and until I met Madeline, I hadn't loved a friend before. They expected me to be this all powerful, unconditional loving, Accalia, but I was nobody.
"You are the Accalia, Genesis, and you will come to realize the importance of it in time. You are also my daughter and both roles come with responsibilities and expectations."

About the Author
Heather Girton has been a creative writer since her childhood, writing creative stories and poems for the love of imagination and literacy. It started out as an outlet for personal struggles and a way to cope with them through fictional fantasy and turned into a passion and need to share her aspirations with the world. It wasn't until 2013 that she decided to share her talent through fictional novels due to the encouragement from her family and friends.
Since graduating high school in 2006, Heather has spent the last eleven years being a dedicated mother and military spouse. In that time she nurtured a family of four children all while traveling the country following her husband's career. She spent the last five years working towards her Bachelors of Arts in Psychology with a Minor in Sociology. She has done volunteer work with grief support organizations gaining experience with her field of study.
Currently Heather lives in Texas with her husband, children, support dog, and lazy cat. She is an avid reader and loves it as much as she adores writing. She spends her free time sharing her devotion for it with her children. When she isn't reading, writing or focusing on her family, Heather has a personal admiration for photography.
The last three years of Kenya Davis's love life were rife with false starts and heartaches in her pursuit to get back her ex-boyfriend, Dave. The one bright spot she clung to was her job as a health scientist with CDC. When she received a promotion that placed her in the field, Kenya saw it as the distraction she desperately needed.
Simon Washington lived a charmed life before his world came crashing down around him. One fateful night full of confusion and heartache, he found himself accused of domestic violence and the attempted murder of a police officer. The once - affluent businessman was now on the run from the law, leaving behind his wife, a thriving business, and his social status.
Kenya's new position took her under the interstate bridge to the homeless, but among the poor and hungry, she discovered Simon. Their worlds collided in an unexpected mash-up of uncertainty and desire.
Kenya wanted to comfort him, despite the warning bells going off in her head. Was he the dangerous criminal the news described him as or the same guy she knew from college? Should she trust the man who fell into her world and crowded everything else out?
Simon felt drawn to the courageous, kindhearted spirit who refused to protect herself from his drama and accept that her trust in him put her in danger. He had to push her away, but the sweetness of her presence was hard to give up when he needed it so much.
Risking It All follows Kenya and Simon as they walk through a minefield of emotions and close calls to find and maintain their freedom and maybe even love - with or without each other.

Chapter One
Rory
Three Years Earlier
âAURORA? HONEY, IS THAT YOU?â
I paused outside my motherâs bedroom, frozen as I fought internally with whether or not to go in. My mom had been bedridden for the last three weeks. When I saw her the day before, she had looked even more fragile than the day before that. She was getting sicker by the dayâby the damn hourâand it hurt to see her that way.
She had only been diagnosed with gastric lymphoma two months ago, but the doctors said there was nothing they could do. It had been left too long, and it had already spread. If she was lucky, she would have six months. At least, that was what they had said four weeks ago. But that was before Sabrina Michaels hadnât been able to get out of bed. It was before she had started vomiting blood at the end of every day. It was before she had given up.
Now, hospice came in once a day, to make sure she was comfortable, and to make sure the new live-in nurse my father had hired knew what to do in case something happened.
Because it could happen any day now. There was no way to determine just how long my mother had, and it was breaking my heart.
Slowly, I opened the door to the bedroom that had been my motherâs sanctuary for years, her own little slice of heaven that only a few people in the universe were allowed to share with her. I was one of the lucky few, but that privilege didnât extend to my father. They had kept separate rooms since before I was a teenager.
My gaze went straight to the hospital bed that was only one of many new additions to the décor of the room. There was a heart monitor on a rolling cart beside the bed, along with an IV stand, pushing fluids and blood into Mom. She had a feeding tube in now because eating just wasnât possible these days.
Timidly, I approached the bed, and my mother gave me a weak smile as she lifted a thin hand.
âHow was your date last night, my love?â
My own smile was shaky, but I forced it to stay in place as I sat on the edge of the hospital bed that practically swallowed up the tiny woman. âMatt took me out to this old field, and we watched stars for a few hours.â
It wasnât a complete lie. We had gone to an old field, and he had spread out a thick blanket. Heâd held me close while shooting stars had fallen across the sky, but my eyes hadnât been on them. They had been wet and swollen as I had cried out my grief for my mother against his chest.
He hadnât said a word the entire time. Just rubbed his fingers up and down my back and let me cry it all out because he knew how much my mom meant to me. He knew how much I was going to lose when she took her last breath. Sabrina wasnât just my mom. She was my best friend, and when she passed away, it would be just my father and me.
A man who would try to control every aspect of my life. But Mom had stood in his way for years now, ensuring that I had my own life, that I could be free from him and his manipulations. Once she was gone, though, that would change. We all knew that.
âHe sounds like a good boy,â my mother murmured now, but I heard the underlying question.
âHe is a good boy,â I assured her with a slightly stronger smile this time. But this time, I was telling her a full-blown lie.
Matt Reid wasnât a boy; he was a man. His twenty-one to my seventeen could cause some serious trouble if we werenât careful. And being a part of the Angelâs Halo MC probably didnât make him a âgood boy,â not when both my father and Creswell Springsâ DA were constantly trying to arrest someone from the motorcycle club. I wasnât stupid; I knew Matt probably did illegal things when he was off on ârunsâ that took him away from me for days at a time.
The truth was, I didnât care what he was doing for the MC when he left. All I cared about was that he stayed loyal to me, that he only ever loved me, and that it was my mouth he kissed like he couldnât get enough of my taste when he got home. That was all that mattered to me. I could live with the rest.
âWe havenât had sex yet,â I assured her when she continued to just look up at me with that question in her eyes. âWe want to wait until the time is right.â
Which could have been any day in the three months since I had met him. Lord knew I would have willingly handed over my virginity to him the first time I had seen him at Hannigansâ the night Iâd gone in on a dare. But like everyone else in Creswell Springs, he had known exactly who I was. Which meant he knew just how old I was, and while some of the brothers in his club were into jailbait, he wasnât one of them.
But he was just as addicted to me as I was to him, and instead of telling me to fuck off, he had asked to see me again. He called me every day, texted me all the time, and we saw each other as much as possible without my father finding out. Because if Derrick Michaels ever figured out that his only child was dating one of the MC members, he would lose his mindâand then arrest Matt.
âTell me what else youâve been up to,â Mom urged as she shifted uncomfortably, repositioning herself until she could find a small semblance of relief.
I reached for the IV stand and picked up the little button that would automatically dispense the powerful narcotics that would ease her pain.
âNo, darling. Donât do that just yet. I lose track of time when I use those damned meds. They confuse me, and I want to focus on you right now.â
Hating that she was in pain, but wanting to give her what she asked for, I replaced the button and sat back, filling her in on everything that had happened since I had seen her the evening before. There wasnât much to tell her, so I told her more about my date with Matt.
âHe keeps talking about the future, as if he wants me to be a part of his life forever.â
Momâs green eyes, which had once been the same shade as mine, were now dimmed with the yellowing of the whites from jaundice and the pain she was in constantly. But they brightened just a little when I told her about Matt. âHe really does sound like a good boy, Aurora.â
âI love him, Mom,â I confessed. It was the first time I had said it out loud to anyone other than Matt, but it felt good to tell her.
âIt makes me feel better that you will have someone who will be here for you when Iâm gone,â she murmured weakly, leaning her head back and closing her eyes.
Tears instantly pricked my eyes, but I held them back like a levee holding back the sea. âDonât talk like that, Mom. We still have plenty of time together.â
We both knew I was only lying to myself, and when she opened her pain-filled eyes, the look in them told me that. âIt wonât be long now, my baby. I can feel myself fading a little more every hour.â
âMom, no,â I whispered brokenly.
âYes, sweetheart. But I want you to know that I love you. You were the best thing to ever happen to me. You are my greatest joy and my greatest sorrow.â Two fat tears fell from her eyes, but she didnât seem to have the strength to lift her hands and wipe them away.
Reaching for a tissue, I mopped away the tears and tightened the hold on my own. âI love you too, Mom. You are my best friend. Youâre my favorite person in the world, and I donât want to lose you.â
âYou wonât,â she whispered. âI will always be here for you. I will always take care of you and watch over you.â Her icy fingers wrapped around my wrist and tightened so hard I knew she was using the last of her energy to do it. âWhen you turn twenty-one, you wonât ever have to worry about anything. Iâve made sure of that. Just try to put up with your father until then, Aurora. After your twenty-first birthday, you can walk away from him and never look back, I promise.â
âI donât want anything but you!â I whispered as the first tear broke the barrier and spilled free. âI would give up everything if I could keep you, Mommy.â
Weak hands pulled my head down onto her chest, and my tears flooded over my lashes, soaking into her silky nightgown. âShh, my baby. It will be okay. I promise. Youâll be just fine.â

Youâll tell me you donât⦠but you already think you know what my storyâs about.
You have no idea.
Just like the people sitting in this courtroom.
She asked for it. Thatâs what they keep saying.
And no, itâs not because my skirt was too short or I was drunk at a party.
Itâs nothing like that. Itâs because of what I like and how I like it.
Theyâre judging me as I sit in the front row, my eyes drawn to the man on trial.
If Iâd known it was going to end like this, I never would have gone home with him.
But heâs the type of man I just canât say no to.
I wanted to feel his lips kiss down my neck.
I dreamed of running my fingers along the rough stubble on his jaw.
I craved his hands on me, pinning me down.
I needed to whisper his name in the dark, late at night.
You still think you know what happened? You donât.
Heâs innocent and I enjoyed every second I was with him.
Let me tell you my story ⦠all about how I asked for it.

Title: La Famiglia
Series: A Men of Gilead Novel
Author: Deanna Wadsworth
Genre: M/M Romance Novel (standalone)
Release Date: January 23, 2018
I’m really excited about all the positive feedback I’ve gotten so far about two of my favorite heroes I’ve written, Forrester and Kyle from LA FAMIGLIA, the second official Men of Gilead book. My holiday advent story WELCOME HOME, SOLDIER also takes place in my Ohio small town of Gilead, if you’d like to catch all of the books so far.
Forrester and Kyle have been in my head for a long time, and they have been through many unfinished versions and rewrites. When I finally realized that Kyle was deaf (all the clues had been there for me but I wasn’t seeing them) the story just fell together so very quickly. I brought along an excerpt to share of the way they flirt before their first date.
Enjoy!
“So, Forrester.” Kyle said his name in a way that never ceased to send shockwaves down his back and straight to his cock. “How does one go about trading in books around here?”
Forrester pressed his groin closer to the back of the checkout counter, not wanting his thin khakis to reveal what Kyle’s voice did to him. He knew it wasn’t an accent anymore, but the soft way Kyle spoke lured him in like a siren’s song.
Since no one else waited to check out, Forrester took a moment to soak in those gorgeous hazel eyes, then smiled impishly. “First you have to bring them in.”
“That would be helpful.” Kyle’s generous mouth cracked a grin.
He tried his damnedest not to picture those downright kissable lips wrapped around his cock while he ran his fingers through Kyle’s sun-streaked hair.
He’d always had a thing for blonds.
He plucked up one of the flyers from the counter. Somehow he managed to sound professional, educated even, when he handed it over. “Our policy is we only take gently used books.”
“Mine are in great shape.”
“I bet they are,” Forrester drawled.
“They’re like new,” he insisted. “No folded corners, never dropped one in a tub either.”
“Good to hear. I hate it when people ruin a good book.” Dammit, now I’m picturing Kyle in a bathtub!
“Me too.” Kyle folded the flyer and tucked it into his pocket.
“For every book you trade in, we give 15 percent off the purchase of a new book or 25 percent off a used one. And for every three books, you get a free used book or half off a new one.”
Kyle flashed those pearly whites, making his eyes crinkle and his dimples deepen so much Forrester longed to flick his tongue inside them. “Guess I got some free books coming.”
“I guess you do,” he quipped. “Do you want to buy these today or wait till you do the trade?”
Kyle withdrew his card. “Nah, I’ll buy them now. I’ve been dying to see what happens since you got me hooked on this series. And Scott already signed this one.”
Forrester offered him a sideways smile. “I’ll just give you 15 percent off on good faith.”
“Gosh, you don’t have to do that.”
Good Lord, the guy said gosh. Could he be more adorable?
When Forrester noticed Holly watching them, he resisted the urge to stick his tongue out at her. Instead, he shrugged off Kyle’s modesty and entered the discount into his computer. “No problem. Just make sure you bring me some good stuff, capisci?”
“Will do. Thanks a lot.”
Forrester swiped his card, then offered Kyle another inviting smile. The one Ma called his suck-up smile. “Can I get you anything else? Answer any more of your questions?”
Kyle kept smiling. “No. You’ve been pretty thorough, as usual.”
“You sure?” he prompted, unable to stop flirting so shamelessly. “You don’t need to know anything else? What’s on the bestseller list? Today’s weather? The meaning of life?”
“Forty-two.”
Official report: Forrester was in love with Kyle Benson.
Or at least in serious lust.
His grin widened so big he swore his face might crack. “A Hitchhiker fan. I should’ve known.” He tore off the receipt and slid it forward for Kyle to sign.
“Hells yeah.” Kyle laughed.
Forrester bagged the books. “Receipt with you or in the bag?”
“Bag’s fine.” He accepted his purchases, then cleared his throat and fiddled with the bag. “All right, um, thank you, Forrester. Always a pleasure.” He extended a hand and Forrester took it, electric jolts running through his blood at the feel of those lightly calloused fingers.
“No problem,” he managed, not letting go.
Kyle kept his gaze locked on Forrester, blinking and glancing from his eyes to his mouth. Warming, Forrester ran his thumb across the back of his hand. He couldn’t believe his forwardness, but Kyle had some kind of tractor beam sucking him in. Powerless against its pull, he stroked the soft skin once more with a nervous, light touch, pulses of heat and desire stirring inside him.
Forrester let go and cleared his throat. “Um, Kyle?”
“Yeah?”
The phone rang, shattering the moment.
Sighing, he snagged it on the third ring. “Thank you for calling A Novel Idea. This is Forrester, how may I help you?”
“Hey, it’s me.”
Only real friends or family could answer a phone with an “it’s me.” Lucas Beale was the former. Though totally weird, and he hated sports of all kinds, Lucas was Forrester’s “boy best friend”—Holly having the honor of being his “girl best friend.” He didn’t know what he would do without either of them.
“Hey, Lucas, what’s up?” He tried not to sound annoyed at the telephone cockblock.
Kyle waved goodbye. “I guess I’ll see ya later, Forrester.”
“Can’t wait.”
“Can’t wait for what?” Lucas asked in confusion.
He covered the receiver, hoping he didn’t sound lame to Kyle. “I mean… uh, I can’t wait to read that book together?” His entire body froze in one breath of anticipation.
Kyle cocked his head to the side, then smiled. “Absolutely.”
Still grinning, Kyle turned and walked away.
Ignoring Lucas as he started talking again, Forrester watched Kyle’s spectacular ass as he headed to the door. A woman was coming in and, like a perfect gentleman, Kyle held the door for her. Outside, Kyle slid on and strapped his helmet. Then he threw his leg over and straddled the chrome-and-black Sportster parked out front.
I got something he can straddle and ride…. Forrester’s skin flushed all the way to his toes. Was Kyle a top or a bottom? Being versatile, he really didn’t care. As long as there was manly skin touching his, lots of kissing, and he got to come, Forrester was a happy camper. But the prospect of finding out what Kyle liked made his entire body warm.
He watched Kyle put his bike into gear and walk it back out of the space. As it did every time Kyle left, a deep ache settled in his stomach.
God, I just need to marry him.

Instead, the guy is my hero. “She’s still mine. I’ve claimed her for a mate.” Gorgeous chews on this new bit of information. He holds up the blood-soaked stake to examine it in the light and then points the tip at Henry. “Seems to me she’s not too interested in becoming your mate.” “Not at all,” I clarify cheerfully. “He’s holding me against my will.” Henry glares at me, then scowls so hard at Gorgeous his eyes start to turn red again. Whether he doesn’t like “She’s human,” Henry says indignantly. “Claiming her is my right. I don’t care if she triggered Terrance’s protective instincts. He can’t just take what is mine.” “Well, I’m sure as hell not going to argue with him while he’s in that state, so why don’t we all head down to the Agency, get the pretty human all healed up, and sort this mess out with the director?” “What agency?” I ask. “Director of what? But while luring a woman into his bed has always come easy, the high-and-mighty Cassie has never succumbed to his charms. Their verbal sparring turns to foreplay, but instead of scratching an itch, it only whets their appetites. Patrick gives Cassie a taste of what she’s secretly craved, and Cassie’s dark desires stir up things Patrick never knew he wanted. Enchanted, he offers to fulfill her most dangerous fantasies. She agrees, with an iron-clad escape clause: her heart is off-limits, and so is his. Funny thing about hearts, though. They have a way of ignoring the fine print. Warning: This book isn’t for the faint of heart. Disclosure includes angry, vying-for-control hate sex and one steamy weekend in Miami. Ready? Break the caution tape and proceed.
